You know what I'm sick of feeling guilty about?

Having a glass of red wine.

All the doctors all blah blah liver failure cancer heart disease weight gain WELL WHATEVER. I LOVE red wine. I love the taste, the smell, the feel of it on my tongue. I love the different and complex flavours. I love how I can usually tell where it's from. I love the smoothness, the roughness, the oakiness or the fruitiness. I love cheap red wine. But most of all I love expensive red wine.

And I am sick to fucking death of feeling guilty about the fact that I ENJOY it. Everytime I turn around there is another 'reputable' research panel saying it is crap for my body, and yet, what ISN'T anymore? I could get hit by a bus tomorrow, and knowing my luck that is entirely possible, and I eat heathily and exercise, so I can has 1 guilty pleasure, right? EXCEPT NOT GUILTY.

Red wine, especially, can be *good* for you, assuming you drink in moderation and combine it w/a healthy diet/lifestyle. And I don't even like wine.

A glass of red wine? I've never heard any doctor or reputable research panel suggest that a single glass of red wine was harmful to a healthy person. In fact, it is widely reported that a glass of red wine daily is correlated with decreased heart disease risk.

Liver failure and cancer may be a concern if you're downing a couple of bottles a night or if you have other conditions which decrease liver function; but people have been drinking wine for millennia without any adverse effects.

I second jade_okelani's doubts about where you're getting your information from.

You should feel guilty if you downed the red wine and didn't think about it. If you ENJOYED it - seriously it's like 140 calories. You will survive this. And you had a treat - yummy! Everyone needs good treats, especially when losing weight.

Enjoy your treats. You'll never lose weight if you don't!
